Acne Do's & Don'ts

There may be some habits that you are engaging in that actually is making your acne worse. Improve your acne by keeping these self-care tips in mind. Remember that more is not always better. Always be sure to consult your Dermatologist for additional tips or concerns about your skin care routine.

Do's

  • Use sunscreen

  • Use make-up and moisturizers that are oil-free and non-comedogenic

  • Consider using tinted moisturizers rather than make-up foundations 

  • Use your fingertips to gently cleanse your face

  • Change bed linen and bath towels frequently

  • Sanitize your phone and other objects that are constantly touching your face

  • Be mindful of how much you are touching your face

  • Wash and moisturize your face in the morning and before bed at night

  • Apply ice to inflamed pimples. But, avoid irritation

  • Use mild cleansers such as Cetaphil and Dove that does not over dry your skin

  • Wear a hair net/scarf when going to bed

  • Know your skin type

  • Exercise & meditate!

Don'ts

  • Don't scrub your skin

  • Don't neglect your health 

  • Don't use a washcloth to clean your face

  • Don't sleep in make-up

  • Don't use more make-up than you need

  • Don't wash your face too much

  • Don't use heavy ointments or grease

  • Don't wash your face with water that is too hot

  • Don't assume that "natural" products are the best products

  • Don't ditch your medication too soon

  • Don't let oily hair cover your face  

  • Don's pick at your skin

  • Don't be ashamed

  • Don't tan
